Birthday Party Invitation - The First Hint of the Party

The birthday party invitation is perhaps the most important piece of paper (okay, not necessarily made of paper, but more on that later). The invitation contains important details about your party and provides your guests with the first hint of what they can expect at the party. Guests will have a record of when and where the party is, and any extra details (location map, theme, or special requests) are down on paper.

A creative and well thought out party invitation will have your guests all excited as they eagerly await the day of your party. Your invitation should reflect the theme of your party. Be imaginative, think of unusual birthday party invitations. Use items related to your theme to convey the invitation message. For something more conventional, a nicely printed invitation with hand-written details always provides a special touch.

When to Send Your Invitation
Send out the birthday party invitations three to four weeks before the party. Invitations should be timed to reach the guests approximately two to three weeks before the party. This gives you enough time to collect RSVPs before you make your final purchases of food, refreshments, party ware and favors. It is a good idea to mail or hand-deliver the invitation to the home address of the guests. If your child will be passing invitations out at school, try to make him/her be aware of the importance of being discrete. Uninvited kids may be displeased or feel hurt. Your child should realize how he/she would feel if excluded from any festivity and be taught to act accordingly.

Important
Your birthday child should always personally invite his/her guests to the birthday party by sending out invitations to them. Never ask someone to invite another guest; each guest should receive a personal birthday party invitation from your child.
